About SMD Technologies
Are you ready to join the fastest growing developer of brands in South Africa? With hundreds of consumer brands from Volkano, Sony, Rocka, Eiger and more, SMD Technologies is home to huge audio and incredible staff.
We have a young and vibey office space, with heaps of staff spoils and the best coffee in SA, all designed to make you want to love working here.
If you love fast pace, thinking on your feet, pushing your creativity and cutting edge products, we want you!
About the Role:
Are you obsessed with grids, margins, and making everything pixel-perfect? Do you get an unreasonable amount of joy from watching a perfectly aligned label roll off the press? Then you might just be our next Junior DTP Print Designer!
We’re on the hunt for a fresh-thinking, detail-obsessed creative with a flair for layout, a love of paper, and a borderline unhealthy relationship with Adobe InDesign. You’ll work alongside our seasoned designers to bring everything from packaging to posters, point-of-sale to product catalogues, to life — all with that chef’s kiss finish.
Responsibilities:
● Prepping designs for print like a total pro (even if you’re still learning, we’re here to help teach you)
● Rolling out layout work across formats — from brochures to banners, and everything in between
● Helping with resizing, versioning and adapting master creative into clean, print-ready artwork
● Keeping an eagle eye on alignment, spacing and bleed (you know it matters)
● Collaborating with the design team to support big ideas with clean execution
● Supporting with digital versions of print files where needed (we love a multi-tasker)
● Learning loads, asking questions, and levelling up your skills every week!
Requirements:
● A relevant qualification (Graphic Design, Visual Communication or similar)
● A solid portfolio of layout-based work — uni projects welcome!
● Working knowledge of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop
● A basic understanding of print processes and specs (we’ll teach you the rest)
● Excellent attention to detail — you notice when the kerning’s off by 0.25pt
● Great communication skills and a can-do, positive attitude
● The ability to take feedback like a champ and apply it constructively
● Bonus: experience working with packaging or large-format print is a plus. We require a small skill test to show you know what you’re doing! That’s all.
Why work for SMD Technologies?
We have fun and love what we do. Enjoy snack days, a weekly staff lunch, all the coffee you can drink, team breakaways, opportunities to grow and improve your knowledge, and an employee wellness programme!
